Buying and Selling Football Tickets Without Getting Ripped Off

Everyone knows the situation. You bought two tickets for a match, your friend pulls out last minute and the ticket sits there doing nothing. Or the opposite: the game of the season is coming up, the official sale sold out in minutes, and on the big platforms a single ticket now costs three times the face value, plus a service fee, plus a booking fee, plus whatever else the platform decided to add at checkout. Ticket resellers have made football more expensive without contributing anything to it

Ticket resellers have made football more expensive without contributing anything to it. The Ground Hoppers App is doing something different.

What ticket resellers actually cost you

Anyone who has searched for football tickets on Viagogo, StubHub or Seatpick knows the pattern. The displayed price looks halfway reasonable at first glance. Then the checkout summary appears. Service charges, processing fees and booking fees have piled up, pushing the total 20, 30 or sometimes over 40 percent higher than the original listing. For a match in the Swedish second division you can end up paying more than for a Bundesliga seat bought directly.

These platforms do not sell tickets, they sell scarcity. They buy cheap, list expensive and then charge you a fee on top for the privilege of buying from them. The money does not flow to the club, to the players or into football. It disappears into the margin of a middleman who has nothing to do with the sport.

For groundhoppers, who often decide spontaneously to attend matches in unfamiliar cities and countries, this is especially frustrating. If you are in southern Sweden on a Thursday and want to catch a Superettan match the same evening, the open market will either leave you empty-handed or present you with an extortionate price.

Offer and request tickets inside the Ground Hoppers App

The Ground Hoppers App has introduced a new feature that solves exactly this problem: users can now offer tickets for football matches directly in the app when they have a spare.

Here is how it works:

You find the match in the Nearby screen or in the fixture list, select it and tap the "Offer tickets" button. Done. Other users who have the same match in the app can see your listing and contact you directly via message.

The system is entirely message-based. No official tickets are transferred through the app, no payments are processed and no data is passed on. Ground Hoppers connects the two parties, everything after that is handled privately between them. Ground Hoppers accepts no liability for the outcome of the private handover.

And the best part: zero processing fees. No service surcharge, no checkout surprise, not a single cent to any platform. Whatever the seller and the interested buyer agree on stays between them.

The ticket feature is a premium feature of the Ground Hoppers App.

What it looks like in the app

In the Nearby screen you see at a glance all matches in your area, with date, time, league and distance. For the match Helsingborg vs Landskrona BoIS on 11 June 2026 at Stadion Olympia in Helsingborg, the match entry shows directly that a user is offering an away ticket. Tapping the listing opens the chat, you send a short message and the rest happens directly between the two of you.

Anyone who wants to offer a ticket opens the match detail page and taps "Offer tickets". The listing appears in the app immediately and is visible to all users who have that match in their feed or search for it.

Why this is a game changer for groundhoppers

Groundhopping runs on spontaneity. You are in a city, you open the app, you see a match 80 kilometres away and you think about going. In that exact moment, the question of a ticket is decisive. If the match is sold out or the box office is closed, the spontaneous decision used to be dead on arrival.

Not anymore. The ticket feature in the Ground Hoppers App means that in that moment another groundhopper with a spare ticket might already be waiting in the app. Direct connection, no detour through a platform, no inflated prices, no fees.

It also brings the community closer together. Groundhoppers already talk about matches, share impressions and organise joint trips. Now they can also pass tickets directly to each other, one more reason why the Ground Hoppers App is the central platform for everyone who wants to experience football for real.
